We facilitate GP Assistantships and students in Year 1, 2 and 4 of their training programme.

Registrars

Registrars are fully trained Doctors and are required to spend a year with a specially qualified practitioner before going on to practice on their own.

We expect that you will accept their services as an extension of our own.

Home Visits

Where possible please telephone reception between 8:30 am - 10:00 am if you require a home visit. Please give the receptionist your name, address, telephone number, age and brief details of your illness.

Eligability:

  • You can have a home visit if you are unwell and housebound or are too ill to visit the practice.
  • Your GP will only visit you at home if they think that your medical condition requires it and will also decide how urgently a visit is needed.
  • If you require regular home visits your GP may refer you to be visited at home by a community nurse.
  • You should also be visited at home by a health visitor if you have recently had a baby or if you are newly registered with a GP and have a child under five years.

GP Enhanced Access

Enhanced Access (additional appointments) is a service introduced by the NHS in October 2022.

It requires GP practices to provide additional appointments to patients during evenings and weekends; until 8pm on weekdays, and from 9am-5pm on Saturdays as a minimum.

GP Hubs in neighbouring GP practices in Chanctonbury have shared use of the service (Billingshurst surgery, Henfield Medical Centre, The Glebe Surgery and Steyning Health Centre).

A mix of services will be available within these additional hours hubs, with access to the range of health professionals working in the primary care team.

If a face-to-face appointment is needed, this will be at a GP practice in the local area – this may not be at your own GP practice, but at another nearby. Within Chanctonbury these will be available at The Glebe Surgery in Storrington and/or at Steyning Health Centres sister site in Upper Beeding.

Please note access to our Enhanced Access hubs are by appointment only by contacting Henfield Medical Centre.

It is not a walk-in service, and the venue is not open for general practice enquiries. All requests still need to be made to practices during their normal opening hours (and able to be cancelled by the patient remotely).

Text Reminder Service

We have a texting service which allows you to receive confirmation and reminders about your appointments.

When you are registered at Henfield Medical Centre you are automatically opted into this service however if you do not wish to receive messages about your appointments please contact us and we can opt you out of this service.

Please remember to update your contact details with us when you change address, telephone numbers and email address.

If you need help with your appointment

Please tell us:

  • If there’s a specific doctor, nurse or other health professional you would prefer to respond
  • If you would prefer to consult with the doctor or nurse by phone, face-to-face, by video call or by text or email
  • If you need an interpreter
  • If you have any other access or communication needs

**What is Rapid Health?**
Rapid health is an AI driven triage tool approved by the NHS and we hope that it will be merged into the NHS App very soon.

**Why are we changing things?**
We have listened to patient feedback and recognise that access to appointments, including online booking is important to you. Rapid Health will allow us to maximise availability and ensure patients are seeing the right clinician in the appropriate time frame.

**Why do I need to complete an online questionnaire?**
All patients will be asked to answer questions using the online form or via the Reception team when booking their appointment. Your answers help the system find the right appointment for you.

**How do I book an appointment?**
All you need to do is go to our website and click on the banner, there will also be QR codes on posters in the surgery. We understand that not everyone can do this online. Reception will still be here to help and take you through a short medical questionnaire which will offer you an appointment in an appropriate time frame.

**Where can I find Rapid Health?**
Rapid Health will be found on our website using a simple link, it will also be accessible via the QR codes in the surgery. Reception can also send you a text message with the web link.

**Will I still be able to book appointments via Patient Access and NHS app?**
The only way to book appointments will be via Rapid Health. It is hoped that the NHS App and Rapid Health will be merged very soon.

**What if I need a same-day urgent appointment?**
If your problem is clinically urgent, the system will offer you same day appointment slots to choose from.

**Does this mean that patients who book online get more access to appointments?**
No. All appointments that can be booked online can also be booked via Reception.

**Can I order my prescriptions through this system?**
No. This system is purely for triaging appointments. You can continue to order your prescriptions via the NHS App.

**What do I do if I want to see a specific GP?**
When booking an appointment, the GPs with available appointments will be shown.

**What do I do if I want to pre book an appointment?**
All our appointments will be available. After completing the Rapid Health questions an appointment will be offered within an appropriate time frame.

**Why have I been offered an appointment with this Clinician?**
Patients will be offered an appointment with the most appropriate clinician.

**I was not offered an appointment, what do I do?**
Some appointments cannot be booked online. The following must still be booked through the Reception team or requested via the admin forms:
- Nursing appointments (e.g. blood tests, cervical screening, vaccinations and injections)
- Annual reviews (e.g. Diabetes, Hypertension, respiratory)
- Medication Reviews
- Post natal appointments and baby checks

**My problem is personal and I only want to tell a GP.**
Simply complete the Rapid Health questionnaire online and only the Clinicians will see it. If you require support to complete the form please call Reception and they walk you through the questions. Every employee at the Henfield Medical Centre adheres to our confidentially policy.

**I have come to the Front Desk in person to book a GP appointment – why will Reception not just give me an appointment like they used too?**
During busy times and due to data protection you will be asked to complete the Rapid Health form online or return home and call the surgery where Reception will support you to complete the form.
For the first few days after we have launched, three computers will be available for patients to complete their requests via Rapid Health with the help of one of the admin team.
