Child Health
Health visitors check that babies and young children are growing and
developing normally every Monday afternoon from 2.00pm to 4.00pm.
We are keen to follow every baby and have a system of routine checks
carried out either by the health visitor or by the clinic doctor. Your
health visitor will arrange the appointments.
Teenage Health Clinic
Linda Campbell offers a confidential and supportive service to any
teenager wanting advice on any health related issue. These sessions
are available on a weekly basis after school.
Family Planning/Hormone Replacement Clinic
All doctors are happy to give family planning advice. Dr McLean and
Dr Crawford Clarke also fit contraceptive coils. The nurses are
available to discuss any issues concerning contraception, smears
or the menopause. They can give advice and information as well
as issue contraceptives or HRT. Women requiring cervical smears
can be seen by any of our practice nurses.
Diabetic Clinic
Linda Campbell runs this clinic once a week. Any patient with a
diagnosis of diabetes can book an appointment with Linda, who will
undertake routine checks such as blood pressure, weight and urine
checks as well as offer specific advice for those with queries or
complications about their disease.
Asthma Clinic
Liz Barnett runs this clinic on a weekly basis for any patients with a
diagnosis of asthma or suspected respiratory condition. Respiratory
function, asthma symptoms, medication review and inhaler technique
will be discussed as well as advice on any problems or complications
patients may have.
Coronary Heart Disease
Liz Barnett will be running these in the near future. As part of the
government's plans to reduce deaths from heart disease and associated
complications, they have produced a framework to which the practice
has to comply. This will mean closer monitoring of patients diagnosed
with heart disease and also those at risk of developing heart disease.
Clinics will be run on a weekly basis and at present patients will be
invited to attend by a letter from their GP.
Leg Ulcer Clinic
Run by the District Nursing Team on a weekly basis at the Medical
Centre. They provide a specialised service for patients and undertake
diagnostic tests to determine the best course of treatment. Patients are
generally referred to this clinic by the GP's or practice nurses.
Emergency Contraception
We can supply emergency contraception if you forget your contraception
or make a mistake. Emergency pills can be given if you attend the
surgery within 72 hours or a coil can be fitted by a doctor within five days.
Minor Surgery
All the doctors perform minor surgery, e.g. cryotherapy for warts. In
addition, if your doctor decides you need a sigmoidoscopy, or pipelle
sampling, or a chalazion operation, you can choose whether you wish
to attend hospital or have this performed at the Henfield Medical Centre.
Your doctor will need to assess you first and decide whether surgery
at the Medical Centre is appropriate.
Over 75 Checks
We recommend that all patients over 75 years, who do not regularly
see their GP, have an annual health check with our practice nurse. A
home visit can be arranged for immobile patients.
Parentcraft Preparation Classes
Parentcraft Preparation Classes are arranged by the health visitors
and midwives. The health visitors can advise you on these.
